Special Announcement

It is with great sadness that we must announce that Sandy has passed away after her long battle with leukemia and cancer. Friends of Sandy hopes that you can take some small comfort in the knowledge that she was not in pain, very comfortable, and surrounded by the entire family as she passed.

Who We Are

Friends of Sandy is an organization dedicated to providing material aid and financial assistance to the family -- and most notably the 16 year-old son -- of Sandy Mellen, a 53 year old single mother who passed away from Endrometrial Cancer and Leukemia

Since first being diagnosed in 2005, Sandy's condition had progressively become more serious. Despite numerous ongoing treatments to try to control the disease, she was physically unable to work. Her family faces numerous financial hardships caused by her inability to work and extensive medical costs.

News From the Fundraiser

A wrap-up of our gala fundraiser, held on January 23rd, 2008, and a special message from Friends of Sandy.

January 23rd was an emotional roller coaster for the Mellen family, and those involved in the planning of the Friends of Sandy Fundraiser. Sandy Mellen, a single mother, had been battling cancer on and off for more than 2 years. On the very day that the Fund-raising event was scheduled, Sandy Mellen passed away. Sandy is now in a better place, joining her father in fighting bigger battles.

The Mellen family wanted me to say that Sandy was at ease in her final days knowing that so many people stepped up to help her and Douglass, and the entire family was touched. It was a wonderful night that turned into a celebration of her life and a promise to a secure future for Douglas, her 16 year old son.
